I feel there is a big difference between expressing a concern about something I may not be aware of, and a campaign to change the decision I have consciously made as a parent after research. -laohaire on MDC

Why yes, I AM a nerd.

So last night, Ryan and I went out to finish clearing off yesterday's snow in preparation for the big storm we got last night/this morning.  We fixed the snowblower so it works SO much better now (yay!) and widened the opening to the drive way (let's just say it's a good thing everyone who uses the driveway owns small cars).  Last night dumped a bunch of snow and now the wind is crazy today.  The worst part is that it's -6 (-29 with wind chill) so we have NO desire to go clear off what the snowplows did to the end of our driveway.  So we are staying inside today, all day.

My driveway.

Here's where the nerd part comes in.  I wanted to better illustrate how blocked in we are.  Yellow is our driveway, blue is the pile at the end of the driveway.

Look, it's almost as tall as the mailboxes!  Btw, that car is actually three lanes away, but the perspective is weird, so it looks like it's closer.

So yeah.  That stuff they plow is always really slushy and heavy, too.  No thanks.

Oh my. It took me forever to wrap my brain around that picture. It's like one of those magic eye pictures that you have to look at for a while to get it. Enjoy your snow day!! I have never lived in snow, have never seen it fall (other than flurries) and will be bundling up in coat and scarf to go out into the 54-degree sunny day we're having. Wanna come visit?? :)

hear ya on the waiting. we don't own a snowblower. after this year I might break down and get one! sheesh. John and I think we are the only ones in our neighborhood without one. :) Poor guy had to fix ATM's today. He said that almost everyone of them that he did had a frozen keypad.

I'm also noticing the snow piled up across the street - looks like the firehouse door is partially drifted in. (I know it's just the angle)

I stayed in all day too. The drifts on the side of the house are perfect for Mino to sled down!

Although it is still zero outside, the wind has finally died down & with Christmas 3 days away, and a house full of grandbabies one day away, I need to get to the store! It's almost 6 am and I'm thinking it would be smart to go now & avoid the crowds....

By Christmas it will be a balmy 23 degrees!!!

This makes me miss my childhood when I'd go sledding in snow like that during the holiday break. Looks like so much fun! I also used to love shoveling that stuff. Now I understand why my mom said, "Go for it, you won't like doing it when you grow up." LOL.

That's crazy! Seems like keypads in Wisconsin should be designed for freezing temps. Poor guy!

Heat wave yesterday in Omaha - got up to 23!  I was thrilled.  High today supposed to be 16.  Even that sounds good.

I hear you on the driveway bit.  My driveway is a little hill and I have a mini-van, so as long as the neighbor doesn't have his new truck parked at the bottom, I let gravity help me out.  Something really fun about plowing through a big pile of snow.  I like to scare the kids that we might get stuck.

"Here we go, boys!  I hope we can make it!"  (vroom vroom) "That's a pretty big pile of snow!  If we get stuck, we'll be half out into the street and will probably get creamed by the traffic!"  (there isn't really any traffic)

And they shake their seatbelts and cry, "No, Mommy, nooooooo!"

I'm just kidding about that last part.  They love it almost as much as I do.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!
